A group of former students, from the closed high school San Francisco Girls’ School, realized that with the help of teachers, parents, and administrators, they had built a strong community focused on STEAM. Determined to keep the community thriving and growing, Rising Steam Institute was born.
Hoping to prove to even more female-identifying and nonbinary students (FINS) that they have the skills to enter STEAM-based fields, they have created a space to support FINS where they can confidently experiment, find the courage to explore or realize just how capable they truly are.

OUR STORY
This is How Our Journey Started
RSI is about more than just programming, it is about a community that supports each other and where everyone works to make the community better. All of the programs are created and led by the high school participants.
A group of former students realized it was a privilege and gift to be supported, educated, and inspired by this community. Though still in high school, they were determined to keep the community thriving and growing.
San Francisco Girls’ School, a high school, closed after two years after providing a strong community built on STEAM.
Through Career Days, Mentorship, and community-building, Rising Steam Institute strives to create the same community San Francisco Girls’ School provided and better to empower young girls and gender-expansive youth in SF to pursue their dreams.
